Dear Colleague
BT ‘Passports’
The CWU has been involved in developing an individual ‘passport’ which is a confidential document between the individual and their line manager to help our members who have a disability; who believe their health may have an impact on their job in the future; or who have a caring need; to get the support they need without having to renegotiate their adjustments with every line manager they encounter.
The passport is entirely voluntary, and must be mutually agreed. It is confidential and the manager is responsible for ensuring that their copy is handed onto the individual’s next line manager when they relinquish their line manager role of that person.
The individual member keeps a copy of their passport and takes it with them to whatever job they may move to or if they change manager and this should ensure continuity in the approach taken by BT to their situation.
The Passports were launched at BT’s Diversity Event on 21st November 2007.
Much of the work for these Passports was undertaken by Nicki Coughlin who as well as being a CWU representative is also Retail’s Disability Champion. The TFSE Equal Opportunities Committee would like to thank Nicki for her valued contribution to this initiative.
Yours sincerely,
Grace Mitchell
Assistant Secretary
