CWU/ACLT Partnership Grows Stronger
We are pleased to report that the founders of the ACLT (African Caribbean Leaukemia Trust) Bev De Gale and Orin Lewis were recently honoured with the ‘Pride of Britain’ award. To celebrate their wonderful achievement they held a private function in Dulwich Village to thank all those who have supported their charity over the years. They have lobbied and worked tirelessly to increase the number of black donors on the bone marrow register – they have seen their work take the number of donors from around 500 to something just over 20,000. Their efforts have seen 14 people who were diagnosed with Leaukemia find a bone marrow match.
The CWU has only recently been working with the ACLT but already the partnership is proving to have immense potential and we have already seen excellent buy-in from the main employers to assist with this very worthwhile cause.
CyrilCyril Onyejekwe is a member of the CWU Race Advisory Committee and someone whose plight we have already highlighted – Cyril has also been diagnosed with the early stages of Leaukemia and is now looking for a Bone Marrow donor.
